Ok. I did not identify with the author at all really. Probably because I am very religious and did not agree with most of his views on religion or the people he referenced.
Excellent, laugh out loud read. A co-worker recommended this and I'm glad I read it. It puts a different perspective on religion. A.J. Looked at many different angles or Judaism and Christianity. I learned a few things and became intrigued by others.

You'd think that this would be a light-hearted book about a fellow trying to follow the Bible as literally as possible. However, we're talking about a book (well, collection of books, actually) upon which governments, constitutions, and whole cultures have been based. So when Jacobs, a non-practising agnostic Jew, takes it upon himself to live "biblically" for one year, he finds he has to re-examine his beliefs and doubts. He also has to choose a smaller number of rules to which to adhere for each month, as it is logically and logistically impossible to follow everything at once, even for someone with obsessive/compulsive tendencies. He follows the Old Testament at first and then adds the New Testament near the end of his year, by which time, he has found an inward shift has taken place.
This is light reading on the whole, but again, more substantial than you'd think.
