Sarah J. Maas is a fantastic author. I thought I would give her latest series a try. I did not finish the book. In fact I didn't even get halfway. I think I picked up this meaty tome at the wrong time for me. From what I did read, the story is intriguing, characters seem to have some depth to them and the setting is an interesting blend of fantasy and real-life. When the time feels right to tackle this book I will try again and redo to my annotation. For now, I'd say anyone who enjoys Sarah J. Maas's works should give it a try.

I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did!! I've recently been reading romance so I liked that this was in a modern, urban setting. There is so much action, I was never bored. I loved every character and their relationship development. I cried through so much of the last 100 pages. I can't wait to see what's next!!

every emotion went through me as i read: i laughed out loud, i sobbed until my sleeve was soaked and smiled until my cheeks started to hurt
and the last two hundred pages? a whirlwind
my first sjm book and i absolutely loved it, and i can’t wait to read more of her work
also if something happens to either bryce or hunt next book, you won’t be hearing from me ever again

4 Stars feels a little generous, but I was pretty into it at the end. When I got to the last fourth I immediately requested the second book. Partly that was because so much was happening in the last fourth! Overall the pacing could have been a little more consistent. I'm not going to say the first part slogged, but the amount of action packed into last fourth was honestly insane.
it took me a second to get into in the beginning, because we spent all this time establishing her relationship to Danica and Connor and the pack, but then they were all murdered. Once I got over that though and figured out Hunt was going to be the love interest, it was enjoyable. Def a lot of blue balls for this author! I can't believe they never even had sex throughout the whole book, and it took so long for them to even hook up.
A lot of twists and turns packed into the ending. But I really liked the sibling relationship between her and Ruhn. And I like how quickly she got.ovrr being mad at Hunt.
