As a read-along to the television show, it went into more detail on the politics of this time period and why the show creator decided to highlight certain episodes in the royal family's history. I only wish it went into greater detail to answer the "Did that really happen? Did she really say that?" questions.

Haven't watched the series but this came up on my Lancashire Library Borrow Box recommendations. Fascinating. Full of facts, insights and a wealth of information. Might see about watching the programmes...😉

It was interesting to have extra context provided, after watching the first season on The Crown, and I love having historical photographs of the real figures and events portrayed in the show. I like how the book was sectioned off, making it easy to read and not as dry as many history books.

A wonderful companion to the show, especially because I really enjoyed Claire Foy's portrayal of the Queen.

I read this for research. I would not recommend anyone read it who does not already have an understanding of the history this book covers. Lacey is, while not revisionist, a strong defender of history from the monarchy's point of view. It was somewhat useful for my research, but I would not read again.

If you ever watch The Crown and find yourself wondering how accurate it is, you are going to love this companion book. It's also just fascinating history.
