Honestly it felt like reading a fanfic. Unoriginal plot, mediocre writing and as many stereotypical tropes shoved in there as possible.
I will probably read the next one as i am easily entertained/invested, but hopefully the amount of times I'll sigh at the constant "banter" and countless times they describe the eye colours of the same 3 people, will decrease

In the kingdom of Ilya, citizens are split up by those who have powers (Elites) and those who don't. Those without powers, called Ordinaries, are hunted and killed by the king's enforcer/son Kai. Paedyn, born an Ordinary, was raised by her father and taught how to read people. When he is killed and she is forced into homelessness, Paedyn uses those learned skills to blend in with the Elites. She ends up saving Kai's life one day and finds herself thrown into the Purging Trials, a competition designed by the king for the elites.
This book is definitely inspired by Red Queen and the Hunger Games, but I do think it has it's own uniqueness. I was entertained the entire time, even with the ending that is quite rude. I'm eager to read the next 4 books and see how this all plays out.

Shamelessly plagiarised...and not even plagiarised well
As an author, you are constantly studying other pieces of work - and you are allowed to be directly inspired/influenced from other books. Powerless was not that and did not stand alone as unique in any way
Just go read Red Queen and The Hunger Games instead.
