I read this in 24 hours, in and around work. Anything set on a South Pacific island hooks me, as it's the destination at the top of my bucket list. This story was beautifully written and interestingly paced and narrated. I was wrecked when it was over, but also satisfied with the story arc and the ending. I don't recommend it as a tropical honeymoon read, but for anyone else, it's a beautiful story and a great vacation read.

What a heartbreakingly beautiful story! I don't even have words. You need to read this...

TW: Death, Plane Crash, Exile, Stillbirth, Marooned

This audiobook was well narrated and a very interesting adventure story that I can see how so many people liked. This is a story about 3 people and a pilot on their way to vacation when their plane crashes in the middle of the ocean and some (not all) find their way onto an island. Who survives? Do they ever get rescued? What do they have to do to survive? Will a budding romance start or will the survivors hate each other?

My initial reaction to the book was that it was a good book, well written, but dang did the ending pack a punch. Literally, I did not know any trigger warnings before this book, but I wish I did. I think this book can totally be for so many people, but due to my adverse reaction to one trigger for me, it just left a bad taste in my mouth. HOWEVER, I realize that one single trigger could not be the breaking moment for so many people. There were some very predictable parts for me, but I still enjoyed the adventure and creativity of surviving on the island.

I don't know what it is about this book but I finished it almost 2 weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it. First, that cover is just gorgeous isn't it? And I love the title which is so reminiscent of the story. I want to keep this review very simple because I went into this story knowing only that it was a unique castaway story and for me that made for perfect reading. What's most important to know is this...there's a plane crash, two survivors, and a tiny island in the middle of nowhere because the pilot flew off course. The survivors are opposites in every sense and yet they must find a way to come together to not only survive physically but emotionally as well.

It's not often that I re-read sentences because the words seem to have been put together to create a magic spell on the reader but I did many, many times while reading Dane Huckelbridge's captivating prose. It was storytelling at it's finest and I literally couldn't put this book down. There's a little bit of everything in this story: drama, heartbreak, suspense, action, humor, sadness, and so much love and resilience. Oh...and there's a twist that left me stunned!  Seriously, I know my jaw dropped. I love it when an author manages to surprise me like that. If you're looking for a something different I highly recommend giving this a try....just make sure to have tissues handy.

I couldn't get into this story. I tried, I gave it 100 pages but it just wasn't for me. The survival elements were really good but I couldn't connect with the characters and the plot was all over the place with things interjected that felt irrelevant.

Great as an audio book due to some french language text which is beautiful read aloud. The plot is unlike any other I've read before - suspenseful but not in a mystery story sort of way. Just keeps you wondering ... a great story of overcoming adversity or not sometimes. I found this one a little sad - wish there would have been some happier to end the book.

the writing was so so beautiful and I loved the characters so much but I was so so sad after finishing.
adventurous hopeful sad fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

You know a book is amazing when it makes you sob at the end. I loved this beautifully written novel- in less than 300 pages Dane Huckelbridge created a lovely story about survival and love.

I had no idea what I was getting into when I started Dane Hucklebridge’s Castle of Water. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t a wistful, beautiful, quirky, sad love story. I read this book in one long sitting because I couldn’t tear myself away. Castle of Water completely knocked my socks off...
