I don’t know where I heard about this book or how I stumbled across it but I’m glad I did. I got the audio version and it was wonderful! It’s Survivor 2.0 but more than just a castaway story this is one of love, loss, adventure, hope, survival and determination. It made me want to take longer walks each morning because I was so engaged with these characters.

One little plot point towards the end didn’t work for me but it wasn’t enough to diminish my enjoyment of this story.

Do yourself a huge favor and go check out/buy this book. Maybe because I relate to Barry's desperation of making his three extra pairs of contact lenses last literally a lifetime, or maybe it's because I relate to Sophie's situation at the end of the book, luckily the odds were in my favor, or maybe it's because of all the art history references - I definitely walk a fine line between Barry and Sophie's tastes in art, can't say I side with one or the other - but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Huckelbridge has managed to write a simple yet complex, light-hearted yet heartbreaking, unimaginable and yet completely possible story. Beautiful, brilliant, and beachy. I so hope [a:Dane Huckelbridge|7127280|Dane Huckelbridge|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1475279902p2/7127280.jpg] decides to take on more fiction!
I heard about this book on my favorite podcast “What Should I Read Next”. I love a good survival story add 2 strangers stranded on a deserted island and I want to read it. Not many books leave a haunting impression on me, but this one did. I don’t think I have ever described a book as beautiful but this one is.
This book is what I imagine Castaway would have been like if Tom Hanks had been stranded with a lady. It was fun to imagine what I would have done in their place. I wear contacts so that was a fun addition and put a twist on things. The ending made me cry.
All the feels. Did not see the ending coming. A heart warming and heart wrenching story, but SO good and so worth reading. Definitely one of those stories I will think about for a long time.
I loved this book and the way the story unfolded with background and details from the omniscient and often cheeky narrator. Somehow being stranded on a desert island is always interesting, especially with a story as well told as this one. I loved Sophie and her pfffs and the genuine midwestern Barry. Love and loss and resilience mixed with danger and adventure.
One quandry. There was a lot of foreshadowing. I’m curious why the author alluded to so much of what would unfold. Interesting choice.

I really enjoyed this book. An American man and a French woman are stranded on an island after a plane wreck - it's charming, sweet, and heartbreaking all at the same time. I hated to put it down, but now I'm sad that the story is over...
I thought the premise of this novel sounded good, perhaps a little cliche, but still in my wheelhouse. But I just didn’t care for it and it was more of a writing style issue than a plot issue. I thought certain chapters were unnecessary and pulled me out of the story. Also, the pace was off and took me much longer than expected to read this 276pg book. Not a bad book, just not my cup of tea.
Loved so much and I couldn't put it down. It had a little bit of everything: adventure, survival, history, romance, humor, pathos, quiet moments, and moments of action. It made me laugh and cry and surprised me more than once. Definitely one of my favorites from the year so far.
I have hardly any words for how deeply I loved this story. I was skeptical at first that it would be for me, but I am SO glad I picked it up. In my top five of this year, hands down. Read it– trust me.
