Give a Witch a Chance is the first book in Colette Rivera’s Love and Magic series and it was so sweet.  See author’s website for content warnings.

Aria and Owen had such great banter!  Even though they hadn’t seen or heard from each other in twelve years, their chemistry was still there and was it ever HOT!  I was always rooting for them.

I also really enjoyed the magic system in this story.  It felt different from other magic systems I’ve read about.

Overall, this was a fun read and I cannot wait to read more from this author.

This was a sweet story that read much more like a contemporary romance than a fantasy one - though the magical component (spells, curses, the witch legal & investigation system, etc.) all definitely played a huge role in the story! Set in current day SoCal, Owen is just a dude (i.e. mortal) who runs a coffee shop with his best friend. He's no broody warrior, but he is maybe the ideal man? Kind-hearted, loves and supports his best friend Tristan unconditionally, and a stellar baker. Aria is a Witch who was best friends - and romantically involved - with Owen as a teen. Really though she's a woman trying to figure out what she wants in life, and where she wants to be. While the witch elements are cool, the core of the story is two people coming to terms with a complicated past, falling in love and figuring out how to be in each other's lives going forwards despite seemingly unsurmountable hurdles. It felt almost TOO practical for me at times ha! Still the couple of spicy scenes were steamy and I loved all the side characters as well - can't wait to get more of their stories!

Second chance for the Psychic Disaster Bi Witch + Sunny Mortal Baker

Lovely cozy fantasy.

A petty curse on Owen's cafe is causing chaos and then his high school love Aria unexpectedly comes back into his life, having lost her job, flat and the life she had built as a Psychic telling futures in a Mortal shop. There's a mystery to solve, confronting why Aria left Owen at 17 and working out if their disparate lives could ever work together.

I really enjoyed this. Not quite as much as Book #3 (yes I read them out of order!) but it's a good paranormal mystery romance with lovable characters.

Brilliant bit of bisexual representation as well, very clear that Owen and Aria are bot bisexual and that their relationship in no way negates that.

In this you'll find:
☕MF PNR with a bit of spice
☕Bisexual MCs
☕A Psychic Disaster Witch x Sunny Mortal Baker
☕Second chance love
☕Rooming with your ex
☕Found family + Queer friendships
☕Not meeting family expectations
☕The "successful" twin brother
☕Death of a parent (off page)
☕A HEA

A paranormal, witchy, second-chance romance in the middle of April is just what I needed. I love Aria and Owen and the chemistry between them. This was such a fun, light read that draws you in with magic and keeps you in with the tension and the mystery behind curses and witchy happenings. And BOTH MCs are bisexual, which I don't think we see very often in books, so I loved that representation. and the cat side character was PERFECTION.

Give a Witch a Chance was such an easy read and I really enjoyed Colette’s style of writing! It didn’t completely blow me away but I feel like it’s one of those series that will get better and better as the author settles into all the characters and we learn more about them. I did give it extra points for hooking me in with the little bit of ghostliness and the mystery around the cafe.

The only reason I didn’t rate this higher is because I think the romance felt like a bit of an afterthought and really didn’t hold my attention. I wanted to connect with them so badly but their whole romance seemed quite surface level. I think I probably would have enjoyed it more if they had just been friends and it was simply just a spooky, witchy mystery about a group of funny, sweet friends.

I would recommend it if you like a low angst romance, a fun cast of characters who make you laugh and a little bit of mystery and magic.

I loved this book so much, I am a sucker for second chance romance and this did not disappoint!

Aria and Owen are the sweetest! I love the history between them! Reclaiming the love they missed out on in their younger years made my heart swell
