Not one of my favorite Stephen King novels, "Thinner" does prove to have some suspenseful moments. However, the gore outweighs the thrill, as the mental picture left by King's in-depth descriptions made me feel disturbed. The novel follows Billy Halleck, a man who is obese by society's standards, hits a woman with his car. Following his court date, he is then seemingly cursed by the woman's family. Halleck starts to shed an obscene amount of weight, only to find that he is not the only member of the community to be cursed. King's moralistic tale makes readers think about humanity, justice, and selfishness through this grotesque novel.
Honestly... I was laughing at this poor man the entire time. I consistently wanted to punch him in the face and ofc Mr. King can't go a single book without describing a teenage girl's breasts in extensive detail. Unfortunately his books are very entertaining and consistently well-written.
This was a five-star story until the last four paragraphs.
It wasn't as mean as other Richard Bachman stories tend to be (King would be revealed as Bachman the year after Thinner was published). And it was short - for a Stephen King novel. His stories are tighter and more effective when they're told in fewer pages.

This should have been a short story, if it had to be a story at all. Nothing about this book clicked with me, from the unsympathetic characters to the tedious "action", and King Bachman's treatment of the Romany seemed particularly tone deaf. Usually I enjoy King's work, but I admit I had to skim a lot of this just to make it through. Would not recommend.
Another great story from King. This one benefits from a strong, simple concept and some authentic characters that hover around that concept. At one point the book delves into the prejudice that gypsies face, but quickly skims over it. I think a little more on that would have given the concept more depth, but having said that, King is rarely political, so it’s not surprising.
Fantastic novel.
Fantastic novel.
dark
slow-paced
I really wondered at the start of the book where he could go with this story, but as usual he drew me in and it turned into a page turner. I felt like I could have predicted the ending which made me knock off a couple of stars.
Nota: 3,5/5

It was just unreadable, repetitive, pretty racist, and boring.
Graphic: Fatphobia, Racial slurs
