The book was fun, but this is one if the few times I'd say that the movie was better. Still a good book though!

4 stars to the text; 5 to Charles Vess's illustrations. You definitely want to read this version of Stardust. I became curious after seeing the movie about a couple plots points that seemed incongruous to me...were those pirates really gay? Did Tristran and the star really..."do it"?? Well, the answers turned out to be no, and no, but that doesn't mean that other characters don't "do it". In other words, although this is a "picture book", it is not appropriate for young children. However, it is a very good story and certainly worth it with the illustrations.

This book was a fast and overall enjoyable read! Neil Gaiman certainly doesn't lack in the creativity department and I easily found myself immersed in his created world of Faerie.

I was intrigued by the other side stories and my biggest complaint is that I wish he would have delved more into those characters and backgrounds. I also felt the ending was a little underwhelming.

I enjoy this book, but as many people who watched the movie before reading the book I also feel that the movie kinda messed up with my expectations for this story.

It’s still a cozy reading despite the unexpected sex scene and violence.

This was so creative and whimsical and fun to read! I finished this in a day because I couldn't put it down. It's adventurous without being overwrought by details and is gruesome but enchanting at the same time. The scenes are so vivid you can picture it all so clearly even though some of it shouldn't make sense. I only wish some more outlandish creatures/characters were introduced or explored because I wanted to delve even further into the faerie realm! Otherwise such a magical book.

Confession #1: I saw the movie first, and it was really hard to detach it from the book: comparisons were inevitable,
Confession #2: this is my first book by Mr. Gaiman (and it won't be the last)
So.. I liked the story, but this is one of the rare occasions that the movie was better on my humble opinion.

Don't get me wrong the book was a decent fantasy read but the movie fleshed out the characters quite nicely too (apart from Yvaine, sorry Claire Danes); Robert De Niro was so funny as the pirate and by far my favorite..!

Back to the book...
The story: Tristan Thorn is a man who will do anything for his lovely Victoria. When he promises to bring her a fallen star, he goes on an adventure to find out who he really is and fall in love too.

My thoughts: I just couldn't immerse myself on that one..at the beginning I had the narration at the same time and it was lovely: Gaiman is a gifted narrator.
Maybe if I kept it until the end, it would have been better but I read faster, so I ditched it.
There were tons of deviations in the movie, but again as I mentioned above I prefer the movie to the book (there is a first time for everything!)
I plan on reading more by Gaiman in the future.
