This chapbook was beautifully written. I found Alok's messages gave a voice to so many experiences I have faced while in the public eye, but I was also exposed to a reality that I can never fully understand as a white person. I felt both heard and informed about how I could better support queer people of color. Simultaneously a battle cry and a moan of mourning, Alok shows the complexity of identity that goes beyond either man or woman. A must read for allies and queer people alike.

Haunting, Beautiful, & Heartbreaking poetry about the joys and sorrows of being a brown trans femme person in a racist, transphobic, femmephobic society.
Only reason it wasn’t fully 5 stars was I wanted it to be a tad longer. It felt like there were 5-10 poems missing. Will continue reading anything/everything else they publish!

It was one of those questions that felt more like a declaration, like, "I AM HURT."

An astonishingly story but powerful poetry collection. This is the closest to tears I've been in a while after reading something.
