He calls her Saint and I love it.
Harper recently divorced Drew after finding out he's cheating on her. A lot. At an event to help raise awareness about the museum where she works, she runs into Alex, Drew's best friend. Alex is a pro football player and Drew is his agent, as well as friend. Alex and Harper have known each other for a long time. In fact, they met before she met Drew. But since he's not a commitment kind of guy and she knows she wants that, they didn't hook up the night they met. When she realizes her new boyfriend, Drew, and the guy she met one night about a month prior, Alex, are friends, she knows she needs to make the decision of what she wants. Since she's already in a relationship with Drew, she stays the course with Drew. Until she finds out he's cheating and she knows she deserves better than that.
Alex really isn't one to commit to anyone. He lives his life with no strings attached. But there's something about Harper that has him thinking if that lifestyle is sustainable and what he really wants. When they first met, he was up front and honest with her about the way he lives his life. Now that he's had to sit by on the sidelines and watch his best friend have a relationship with the girl of his dreams, he's really rethinking everything.
At the event for the museum, one of Alex's teammates hits on Harper and won't take no for an answer. After a scuffle, Harper and Alex find themselves in a pickle… and a fake relationship. He doesn't want to lose his spot on the team so saying he was standing up for his girlfriend is the story he needs to go with. Alex has ties to people that can help the museum stay open so Harper plays along with the ruse.
I fell so hard for Alex and I'm not even sorry. I also wanted to shank Drew when his claws came out. What a deplorable guy. Yuck. Just yuck. But I did love the way Harper navigated the blackmail and how things ended up.
Sweet and Spicy
The chemistry between Alex and Harper blasts from the pages of this book! I love how he brings out the best in her and the spicy, with his dirty words.

This book starts this series off with a bang! Holy heck this was so good! Alex & Harper had a night together years ago but Alex wasn't in the right place for a relationship. Harper ends up in a relationship with his friend and they eventually get married. But now years later they are divorced. After a night out, Alex ends up in a situation where he has to fake date Harper to prevent getting in trouble.
It may have started out fake, but the way that Alex helped build Harper's trust and helped make her feel strong again was anything but fake. Alex is book boyfriend goals! I liked how they got to know each other in a new way.
I am a sucker for a friends ex and this was one was one of my favorites. The secrets, the sneaking around, the tension. And then it got a little crazy towards the end and becomes suspenseful.

The fact that I read and finished this despite the cartoon cover tells a lot.
Maggie Rawdon rocks sports romances. She just does.
This is a secretly pining MMC kind of story and I loved it! I usually do not buy the it's-always-been-you trope (because hello, if it's always been me why haven't you done anything and gone against all odds so you could have me) but Alex's reason is valid and understandable. And I loved that he pounced as soon as he found out she was available. Yes, baby! Go for it! LOL

"Well she should have fucking been mine," I snap. "That's what I get for trying to do the right thing."

I fully enjoyed this book the moment I started reading! The chemistry and banter between these characters was instant!
I loved every single thing about this book. Maggie did such a wonderful job! Anytime Alex called Harper “Saint” I nearly died every single time. These two were spicy and sweet as hell! I wanted to scream from excitement whenever these two would tell each other it should have been them from the beginning! I loved how much Alex just didn't care at all that he was taking his best friend's ex wife because he was a straight up douche bag and I hated him!
If you love a man down bad, possessive and protective then you will eat this right up!!!
