Even though the book had an abrupt start, I kinda liked the meet cute. The first few chapters were so exciting. I loved all of kates and Jonah’s interactions. They were so cute and heartwarming. Though the story kinda started faltering midway - way too much of the story centered around Jonah ex viv. To the point where it kinda got irritating.
Overall the story worked though. Both the characters were well put together and the writing was really amazing. I’ll definitely read more from this author.

Reality TV romances seem to be all the rage at the moment.

Kate Geary is a TV producer, she has pitched the idea of her idol, Dr Vivienne (Viv) Brandt, having a reality TV show in which she helps a different couple each week get over their relationship issues. Kate credits Viv with helping her to see her own relationship issues clearly and is fond of quoting Dr Brandt's wisdom.

Although studio management give the go-ahead for the show, they want to bring Viv's ex-husband 'Average Joe' to help the couples alongside Viv. Joe provided no-nonsense 'bloke-ish' advice as side bars in one of Viv's most successful books.

When the team meet Viv's ex-husband he turns out to be none other than Jonah Porter, the nerdy bookshop owner that Kate met at a B&B four weeks earlier. While Jonah and Viv's divorce was amicable he felt that he was unfairly portrayed as an unsophisticated, uneducated, blue-collar worker - a foil to Viv's intellectual sophistication. However, Kate persuades him that the show would give him the opportunity to show viewers the other side of him, 'the real him' and promises that the show would not try to make him look stupid. He also wants the money to help his sister who lost her leg in a car accident and is struggling to make ends meet at her Animal Shelter.

Kate and Jonah have a connection but it's difficult to maintain between all the stunts being pulled by Viv and the studio bosses and the desire to blindside people on TV to improve ratings. When Kate is told about a plan to blindside Jonah and sworn to secrecy her job and relationship are in conflict.

I really liked Jonah as a character, he was kind and caring, clever and funny and self-aware. I liked Kate, but not as much.

What I liked about this story was that I could see a lot of different ways that this story could have played out and I was kept guessing to the end, the chemistry between Kate and Jonah was palpable, you could feel the heat between them. I also liked the snippets of the filming with the various couples Jonah's down-to-earth take on things.

Another great funny romance from Tawna Fenske.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Super cute - I loved the cat! The reality TV part was really fun and I liked the easy, sweet romance. It was short, too, which is lovely in a romance novel - sometimes they drag and this one just flew by.

Light and fun with lots of laughter, just what I was looking for! I totally enjoyed these characters and their many quirks.

At first, I didn't think that it'd come to this but I honestly can't name one thing about this book that I enjoyed, except that the first 2-3 chapters were cute and promising (too bad it was all false advertising). I really only finished this book out of sheer stubbornness and nothing else.

The creepy factor in this book was off the charts. Like
when Kate and Jonah get it on and he thinks about what his ex-wife (further ahead, we find out that she's not his ex-wife at all, due to some paperwork issue but more on that later) said about importance of sex *ICK*...OR, how Kate is like the world's biggest fan of Viv (Jonah's ex not-so-ex wife) and she quotes Viv any chance she gets, often in her conversations with Jonah. Or, how once he quoted Viv (a line from her book) to Kate just after they had sex??? OR, how she and her assistant Amy find out that Jonah and Viv are still married and first decide to handle the matter themselves (as in, finalize the divorce, I don;t even want to know how that would work), WITHOUT INFORMING VIV AND JONAH THAT THEY'RE STILL MARRIED. I mean, talk about being shady. In the end, they didn't follow with this plan, probably because it would involve a criminal offence or two, not because it would be a vile thing to do.

All this made reading this book a very cringy experience. I could maybe still give it 2 stars, if it weren't for the fact that there honestly wasn't anything that I enjoyed about it. Characters were one-dimensional and just fell flat. The romance part felt stretched as well, and as far as "forbidden"/secret affairs go, that one had a chemistry of a soda can that was left opened in a fridge for months. The author used words that indicated at the characters' feelings and how hot they were for each other but at the end of the day, it just...wasn't there? And then, the ending was cliche and predictable and at that point I simply just didn't care.

This is of course just my personal opinion. Perhaps I am too harsh on this book and granted, I'm still on the high from the excellent "The Kiss Quotient" so I may be a little hard to please but ...*sigh* reading this book was not a good experience.
