An essentially perfect read: a v. sweet romance told with Hall’s characteristic, sure-footed, warm & fuzzy subversion; brilliant vocabulary; and care. Hall somehow manages to take on a host of deep, hard issues (anxiety, the patriarchy, organized religion, abandonment by parents, racism, among others) with a wit that compels his readers to laugh out loud and a charm that makes it a lovely journey with Paris & Tariq, not completely overwhelming. It’s simply impressive. I feel like I’ll be unpacking bits of this book for days and cannot wait for the next Alexis Hall book to hit the shelves.

This book was so aggressively unpleasant that I gave up within the first chapter. After reading the content warnings, I'm also wondering if this is even a romance, or a book about a character experiencing
Spoilermental heath crises
with romantic elements. Regardless, a rapid DNF.

More like 3.5. This was cute if a bit hard to read at times. I think the angst had angst. But I liked the GBBO background and I loved Tariq. And Morag!!! AND THERAPY YO!!!! But it's not exactly a feel good read. I was often frustrated. Glad I finished it though.
