easy, enjoyable read though a predictable plot twist and the end felt quite boring and dragged out.

not a single likeable character with little to no development, it was impossible to root for anyone (except maybe the train itself).

probably one of the best openings to a book i’ve seen, had me hooked instantly but was 100% a let down at the end.

This is the Swedish translation of The girl on the train. I’ve never watched the movie but decided to read the book. At first it was a little bit slow for me but after a few chapters I couldn’t stop reading.
At times I question the way the author wrote the female lead, Rachel, cause I was cringing and there were so many times where I couldn’t help but thinking “Girl, no! What were you thinking?”
The author really made me question everything Rachel has done but this is also precisely why I like the book, cause I believe this is quite realistic. The way the abuser always seems to be able to manipulate people and making the actual victim seems crazy. And I fell for it, I fell for the abuser’s scheme and I gave Rachel a side eye.

This was a very good thriller. It deals with a lot of themes; alcoholism, abuse, relationships, motherhood, and dealing with loss. It was a little slow at the beginning, but there was still something about how well it's written that makes you want to keep going. Even when I had figured out what probably happened (I was right!), the author still had a way of keeping you interested just to see how it would all play out. The .5 star missing is mostly for how rushed the ending seemed considering how slow paced it was at first.

A really great mystery book! It met all my expectations and the story came together very satisfyingly at the end. The complex changes in timelines and characters really let you get the most of the story, and led to a very unexpected but believable ending. The writing style is nice as well, and my only criticism is that it wasn’t super captivating in the first hundred pages or so, but the rest of the book made it all worth it!

This book was deeply annoying. First of all, there was no girl on the train. The main character is a woman who deserves to be treated as a woman. To call her a girl would indicate she is immature in some defective way. She’s got issues, deeper than most, but she is most definitely a woman. (Pet peeve of mine to infantilize women - that only serves men.)

Secondly, not one single character is likable or even decent as a human being. So I had no sympathy for any of them, and as a result, there was too much antipathy on my part to care about any of their plights.

Why was this book so popular and on so many must read lists? I’m annoyed at myself for having finished. Should’ve DNFd it.
