It took a while for me to see where the story was headed but once I did I was hooked. The characterisation is perfect, Peters doesn’t hold back with laying them bare for the reader but also each other, and you feel very connected with Reece and Ames especially which helps you understand their relationship and underpins the entire plot. Genius, I loved it!

Insightful, funny and unflinching character study of 3 women (2 trans, 1 cis) and what motherhood, sex, gender and family mean to them.
These characters are complicated and flawed and sometimes hurt each other. The writing made me laugh, challenged my preconceptions and engaged my empathy.
Four stars rather than five for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the ending was perfect for the story Peters was telling, but it left me a bit disappointed and wanting more. Secondly, the way they hurt each other was difficult for me to read at times and means I probably won't reread.

This book envoked so many complicated emotions and was quite an easy read. I love that is is actual trans literature by and for trans people. The characters made me go through all the stages of grief from their various decisions.
the ending was not what I had hoped for but it is still very good

Very messy, vulnerable and harsh. The characters are deeply flawed, unlikable at times and terrible at others. It arises many questions and reflections about traditional family, gender roles, race and what all of that means for the characters. It doesn't shy away from the bad and at times, it calls the characters out for their whiteness, cisness, heteronormativity, hypocrisy, etc creating a space for intersectionality that was interesting to read.

I liked a lot of this book. It was definitely stories that are not seen in mainstream media. It introduced a lot of complexities. I appreciated the grey of all the characters although it made it difficult to read near the end, when you don’t quite have someone to root for. The ending choice was smart but hardly satisfying.
