Given the plot of the story , this book could have been finished in about 150 pages. I did not care for the couple at all (Kate and Nick).
I felt like every man Kate met (which was 4) made her feel like he was different from the rest.
The book also had 2 sexual harassment jokes that did not sit well with me.
So, this book was definitely not for me. would not recommend.

I had trouble finishing this one. What happened to him just broke my heart.
I really liked the beginning. Wanted them to have a happily ever after :(

Another solid book by Danielle Steel. Her writing style is very different in the 70's and 80's. I got the entire history of Tom and Kate in a couple of pages, which kind of threw me off. What irritated me about that was the instalove. I mean, she fell in love with him instantly and went off with him alone for hours. Isn't that a little dangerous? Even if he is a football player.
The story itself was good. Kate lives alone with her son, after the tragedy of what happened to her husband. She writes to make a living and lives in her own little world. She visits her husband twice a week. She does nothing out of the ordinary and doesn't let anybody in.
One of her books makes it big. Kate has to chose to continue to live in her bubble of safety or go out in the big scary world. Kate choses the big scary world and what ensues is dramatic but with happy moments. Kate discovers herself and how the world isn't as scary as she once thought it was.
Sounds good, right? Well it was, don't get me wrong. But Kate drove me nuts. I understand that what happened to her was very tragic but she was just so damn irritating. She was incredibly selfish at times and freaked out constantly. She keeps her son in the dark about what happened to his dad and lies to her new boyfriend, Nick, about him as well.
I really did try to feel sympathetic to her but after a while my sympathy ran out. It felt like she insisted on being weak but then turned around and yelled at anybody who tried to help her. I was waiting and waiting and waiting for Kate to tell Nick about her husband. It took him having an assistant research about her past and confronting her about her past to get her to say anything.
Overall, the book was alright. It had it's ups and downs. I wouldn't start with this particular book if you want to get into Danielle Steel. She has far far FAR better ones like Zoya or Echoes
