Wonderful book with an interesting insight in Korean history from a woman's perspective. Loved reading about the matriarchical culture of diving in Jeju. Very intense scenes describing the war repercussions on their island.

made me cry so many times, would highly recommend. i learned so much and now i have a new fixation on the haenyeo. a completely beautiful story

3.5 stars. I had to struggle to finish this book until about 3/4 of the way when it really took off for me. The diving & culture were really interesting, the relationship stuff felt a little heavy-handed.
