ARC review
I will start this by saying I loved this book very much! Wren and Torj are one of my favorite book couples! I am not huge on miscommunication tropes, I just feel like they are used a lot lately so they’re not always my favorite. And some characters I would have loved to know more about seemed to get sidelined (for reasons) in this book. Overall it was really fun and exciting to read it has more political intrigue than physical batter you got used to in the legends of thezmarr.

This book was so good, and I just feel like every book in this series (starting off from the original series to this spin-off) just gets better and better. As a whole(so far), I must prefer the books in The Ashes of Thezmarr spin off series when comparing it to the original Legends of Thezmarr series. I think I just prefer Wren and Torj as the leads compared to Thea and Wilder. I really like that Wren isn't a warrior and has a different sort of strength in her alchemy. Alchemy to me feels like a sort of melding of magic and science and I think growing up as a fan of science, characters that are alchemists or healers or an apothecary always appealed to me in a fantasy setting. I also think that Wren has such a good character arc and character growth from the beginning of the first book to the end of this book and I can't wait to see where her character goes in the next book. This book definitely started out with Wren and Torj at odds with each other after he rejected her at the end of the last book as a way to protect her but it didn't feel like it was dragged out too long which happens to be a big pet peeve of mine in longer series. I also feel like these characters learned to communicate with each other better and when they weren't able to communicate right away, they didn't let it drag out to the point where they hurt each other again. I really enjoyed the overall storyline in this book and how the side characters were integrated. There were some twists in the story that kept it really engaging. It has a good balance of humor and romance to break up some more serious parts of the book. The ending definitely made me excited to read the next book, which I believe is the last. I think I'm definitely going to do a big reread of the original series leading up to this series before the finale.

I love to be back in this world. I liked the plot progression that we got and I'm excited for book 3.
I was so glad that we got more Kipp, Thea and Wilder.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. After the shattering events of Iron & Embers where Torj made all the decisions for Wren about their bond, they now have gone 10 steps backwards in their relationship. Wren can’t stand the sight of Torj and wants nothing to do with him. This book tests their relationship and brought back all the yearning. I absolutely loved the only one tent and very forced proximity in this book but I also loved the rebuilding of Wren and Torj’s relationship and the slow burn. Then of course there are all the lovable side characters of Kipp and Cal and Dessa and Zavier and the fact that Thea and Wilder make a big reappearance. Can’t wait for the final book.

Helen writes another epic fantasy book, following on from the cliffhanger that left us reeling after Iron & Embers, we dive straight back into the world of battles and alchemy.
What to expect
Bodyguard x Alchemist
Soul bonds
Magic
Alchemy
Secrets and schemes
I felt like this book had a slightly slower start but by the end I was eating this up. The yearning from both MCs throughout was perfection even if the did have their conflicts their love did give off endgame vibes and I hope this will be the case. But Helen does leave us on another epic cliffhanger putting everything into question.
Helen writes excellent spice and this REALLY picks up in the second half of the book.
I also just love the found family vibes of these books, and the string bonds the group has, they have each other's back through everything.
I feel like I have way more questions after reading this book, which is usually the case in book 2, I can't wait for the next one to see how it all plays out.
