What a great second book! We're given new characters that are just as vibrant as book one, and the plot really picks up. The beginning can be a little frustrating/disorienting as you get used to who is who, but it is quickly intriguing. It's obvious that the plot was clearly laid out from the inception of these books because of its intricacies. Some people may be frustrated with the lack of Kai in this one, and it is more gory than book one. Sometimes the new characters can be a bit toxic, but it also makes them interesting.

I do not factor audiobook narrators' performances into in my overall star rating of a book, but I would give Rebecca Soler a 4.5/5. She did better with this one than the last, with a bit more variance in her emotion, although it still drones or falls flat in parts. Her accents were quite good, actually allowing me to know who was talking when. However, I started to wonder why Scarlet has a French accent (typically, though sometimes Soler forgets to use it) but Kai, for instance, has an American one even though he lives in New Beijing.

Continuing my YA reading trend but this time something that is not a romcom. I thought I'd pick up this series once again and finish it this time round!

I enjoyed this, the second half to final third was great, things picked up speed, the plot thickened, reveals happened, and I'm keen for where the plot and character arcs are going.

I liked Scarlet and Wolf and thought Wolf's whole character was a very clever tie into the original red riding hood story.

My biggest issue is that the first half of the story took so long to pick up things up, like I still enjoyed it and kept reading but it was like alright like we're not going anywhere with this?? Things are just kinda basic?? The blurb also made it sound like Cinder's story line would cross into Scarlet's WAY sooner than it actually did.

Whilst Scarlet and Wolf are cute and have interesting dynamic, I think it would have hit much more if the first half spanned so much more time, like at least a month, so that way it builds the relationship to make the betrayal and everything that follows land more. Whereas now it's like awww but like do I really buy it??

Regardless, keen to start the next one!

Strong “werewolf” vibes for this one. Not usually my thing, and I can only do it in certain circumstances, so some of those more intense moments were not my favourite.
I still enjoyed the book over the whole, we are still following Cinder and her journey, introduced to Scarlet and they are thinly linked. New characters from last book that I didn’t mind. We are still waiting for the story to conclude in the next book, and even though it’s a series, I find it frustrating we don’t have anything much in terms of resolution at the end of each book.

Nearly stopped reading when the twenty year old flirted with the sixteen year old, but my own inner sixteen year old wanted to know what happened to the wolf-hybrid soldier man, so I stuck it out. Not sure if I'll be finishing this series though. Insert Jupiter Ascending joke here.

Aggressive wolf love interest trope but fairytaleesk and space stuff.

Kai is still annoying, I don't understand him or his decisions.
While I am a but of a sucker fo  the more awful abusive relationship garbage,  especially possessive wolf boys, I have less patience for it now, especially books directe at teens. It’s bad. If a boy is like Wolf, get him into therapy, don't become his "Alpha female" 🙄
Scarlet was pretty annoying with the "omg I wanna kiss you 💋 😘 "

I loved Thorn. Cinder was mostly better, and I missed Aiko.

As eye rolly as it is, I would have adored this in high school. And it is fun.

Can't wait to get through the books I wanted to read years ago 😅

Oh also, gay wolf's apparently don't exist in this world.
