A lot of series tend to use the second book as filler adding depth to the characters without a stand alone plot, however this was a solid second book in The Emperor's Edge series. The mixture of fantasy, steampunk, and action was continued and the misfit gang of 'heroes' is further explored.

We get a bit more background on the world from Sicarius' pasts and we get some more development on Sicarius and Amaranthe :)

Re-read 06/01/19: Loved these books the 1st time I read them and I STILL love them now!
The character development is amazing, the dialogue is always hilarious and witty, there are a bunch of people you can't help but adore and a slow burn romance that makes you do a happy dance :) Sometimes the team's antics tend to be a tad unbelievable but it is a fantasy book and that's what their team is all about.
This is book for anyone who loves chaotically good assassins, a strong female (and extremely funny) protagonist that does what no one else can, daring escapades and hilarity.

Fun continuation. I read the first stories all in a row so it's hard to remember all the separate details.

I am appalled and impressed by Amaranthe's dedication/heroics/stupidity? Sicarius is getting a tad bit warmer and their team is actually starting to make a difference. Can't wait to finish this series

Oh, I'm still just loving this series! I'm not generally a raver, but I'm afraid the crew of the Emperor's Edge makes me squeal a bit like an excited fangirl. I love the writing, the characters, the snark, the world, the slowly budding romance, etc.

It did feel a bit like a 2nd book, in that all the characters and their roles are pre-established so there's little need for a lead in. But the book does have a beginning, middle and END—no cliffhangers here.

I know I usually have more to say about a book, but 'I like it. I like it a lot' is about all I've got for this one. I look forward to the rest of the series and I'm beginning to think I'll be forced to invest in it all.

The team is really coming into their own, and I really do love all of the characters!
In this book we get perspective from both Amaranthe and Books

After the success of saving the Emperor in the last book, the crew finds themselves still wanted, and looking for a new mystery. Enter dead bodies, and people getting sick from the water all over Stumps, monsters, and revenging practiconers.
