I enjoyed this book primarily because of the setting--Door County is our family vacation spot. The writing was so-so, although the ending was not what I expected. It's not a bad thriller/mystery, but I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it if it wasn't for the location.

This is good. I know, I know, what sort of a review is that? But I've sat and tried to think of a review, I've even started three times, and I really don't know what else to say.

This is the first Brian Freeman book I've read and I am off to read another. I like the way he tells a story, slowly revealing each new piece of information. I'd say it was like peeling an onion but it isn't. More like eating your way through a box of chocolates without any clue what is inside the box. Each new chapter is wrapped in a tasty layer of chocolate but the filling is a surprise. Yes, I can't believe I've just used that analogy either.

Let's leave it at...I am going through a murder/mystery phase at the moment and I loved this book. My one problem (oddly) was with the detective. The story was great, him not so much. So, next Brian Freeman will not be a Cab Bolton story.

having been to Door County a couple of years ago I was familiar with the names of towns and we'd been on Washington island, which was kind of neat. Was never quite sure who to believe or not. Didn't all come together til the end. A very good book!

Secrets. They lurk and eventually push their way to the surface. No matter what. A girl witnesses a house fire that kills the family inside it. Years later she is killed on a beach far from that location. Cab Bolton is the Florida detective that travels up to Door County WI to piece together the truth. Which he does while battling his own ghosts.

I enjoyed this book. It was an easy, quick read and had enough twists and turns to keep me interested. The main characters were likable. The ending was satisfying.
