What I love about Jane Tennison stories is that she is a female lead that is awesome. She is clever, and always solve the mystery using her intuition combined with evidence that she tries to find - in places where her male counterparts would not even think about to go look for anything. In this book, she is the first female to join the Flying Squad. And even though she faced some resistance in the beginning, her actions while trying to solve a crime make her accepted to the group. The Dirty Dozen became a group of thirteen people with Jane as one of their newest members. I like how the book unveils one step at a time, without any rush at all, and little by little the crime is solved and Jane saves the day.

Treacle meets Sweeney in Tennison's progress towards Prime Suspect.
Excellent as ever.
Thwe ending got me wondering if there's room for at least one more instalment before PS though...

‘The Dirty Dozen’ finds Jane Tennison working in the ‘flying squad’ and its a heart-stopping read in which Jane really comes into her own! This is the fifth book in the Tennison series but it could be read as a standalone novel. I do recommend reading the full series though as it allows you to really understand the character and the pressures of being a female in a male-dominated profession.

It's April 1980 and Jane is now a WDS in the police and its also her first day on the infamous ‘flying squad’. It is a unit that is dedicated to dealing with bank and armed robberies and Jane is the first woman to ever be on the squad. Her boss doesn't want her to be on the team as he doesn't believe women have a place in such a dangerous role but we all know that Jane is going to win him round! I felt she really came into own in this book, she has a secure confidence, took directions and criticism more fairly and was determined that she was going to prove that she belonged on the team. Of course, she is still naive and making mistakes but that shows she is human and that we are all constantly learning from our experiences.

On her first day the team are called to the scene of an armed robbery of a Securior van at a local bank. The team find themselves up against a group of experienced criminals and its only when they receive a tip off that they start to gain some information and leads. Of course, Jane manages to find the breaking clues that are needed and slowly begins to earn the teams respect.

Let me know if you pick this one up!

I know this might sound weird, but this book made me very happy. I love Jane, and Dabs and Teflon... and I felt so sorry for Carl. A long, but tense and thrilling cop procedural set in 1980.

This book was another great read, full of action, and we see Jane trying to prove herself worthy and just as good as her male coworkers once again. This one was set in the 1980s before mobiles were used, and I love reading about how the world used to be. I recommend giving this one a read.

This is the fifth book in the Jane Tennison series and I’m absolutely loving it so far. I think this one was the best one yet!

It’s 1980 and is Jane’s first day as part of the ‘Flying Squad’, more commonly known as the Sweeney. To say she is thrown in at the deep end is an understatement! There is an armed robbery and everyone is off to the scene of the crime!

Jane still has all the usual sexism to contend with, perhaps even more so as she is in an even more male dominated position.

I really like Jane and her determination. She always goes after her instincts and it usually pays off but as usual it often gets her in trouble with those above her! It was good to see some characters from previous books make appearances in this one too.

It is definitely worth reading these books in order to fully understand everything that is happening throughout.

I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series in the next couple of weeks.
