Significantly better then the first book, I feel like Apollo has his personality sorted out.
I enjoyed this, but I do still feel weird reading it, as the emotional whiplash isn't exactly to my taste.
The fip flop between comidic one liners and depressing situations was...ok

Even better than part one. It gets much darker than I would have expected.

After what I thought was a bit of a rocky start to the series in the first installment, I think the characters really come into their own here. Apollo is still Apollo, but he's more endearing now, and is learning to think about others besides himself, even if some things about him never change. The supporting cast is also larger, and features a few more familiar faces from Riordan's previous books, which never hurts for a long-time reader like me.
