Apollo is seriously such a fun narrator. In general, I think Riordan is just great at injecting humor into these books, no matter who's narrating the story. But he's really been nailing it in this series so far, balancing the humor with the darker things that are happening in the overall arc of the story. Those memories we get of Meg's towards the end? Oof. Definitely adds to her character development, though!

Since this is the third series set in this Greek/Roman mythology world, I'm enjoying that we're getting to see a bunch of other characters from previous books. It's like a fun little scavenger hunt, seeing who get to see next. I'm always a fan of interconnected books like this anyway, especially since this just keeps building on what we already know.

Can't wait to see what adventures are in store next for Apollo!

as an avid enjoyer of the percy jackson and the olympians series, i’ve found ToA to be very juvenile. i get its middle grade but so is olympians and it never felt so…cringe? there’s just some pretty stupid jokes in there that makes it hard to get through. i also think the names of their monsters tend to be much more complicated than the og series and it makes it hard to keep straight. i did find some of the backstories pretty interesting and there were definitely some charming moments in the book. overall, the book didn’t make a super large impression on me and i probably won’t be thinking about it in the future. i bought the whole series already though so i will be continuing :)

Rick Riordan mentioned Frank Ocean in a book and my life has been changed forever.

After what I thought was a bit of a rocky start to the series in the first installment, I think the characters really come into their own here. Apollo is still Apollo, but he's more endearing now, and is learning to think about others besides himself, even if some things about him never change. The supporting cast is also larger, and features a few more familiar faces from Riordan's previous books, which never hurts for a long-time reader like me.

I just can’t. I didn’t enjoy book one, I’m not enjoying book two. I don’t care what’s happening in the story and don’t care to continue even just to see what happens. I also dread picking this book up, sigh when I see how many pages I have left, and can’t seem to remember what I’ve read.

11/21 reread review:
I only picked this back up because Rick announced a book About Nico but it picks up at the end of this series so obviously I have to finish the series so I can read the long awaited Nico book. Now I’m still at this moment in time have a physical copy but I grabbed it from the library is an audiobook to help me speed through it. I finished it in two days, and really didn’t like it all that much… ugh. It feels so weird for me disliking a wreck book so much let alone a wreck series but I’m just not Vibing with the series is at all which is also kind of ironic/almost funny because I just bought his daughters of the deep book that just came out I bought it on pre-order but I’ve told myself I can’t pick that one up until I finish this series soooooo here we go.
