I loved this book! I liked that it was family/sister focused instead of romance focused. I wasn’t truly able to visualize the character Javier, I couldn’t really relate/connect to him. But I loved the whole book!

I felt that this book was quite predictable. It was an amazing well articulated read. I loved the visuals and metaphors used.

This is not a typical genre that I gravitate towards easily. That being said, I was very surprised to realize that I enjoyed When We Believed in Mermaids. I wasn't in love with it, but it was interesting enough and easy to read. It moves pretty quickly and is only a little over 300 pages. I wasn't overly surprised by many of the big reveals but wasn't disappointed by them either. The best way I can think to describe this book is a perfectly okay read. It's short, it's interesting, the ending is kind of cheesy. The characters aren't amazing, but they aren't awful either. If contemporary romance is your thing, it might be worth a shot to read. I found it under a mystery category while browsing for something to read, but truthfully I didn't think it really fits as a mystery.

There are some subjects that people may find hard to read, which include sex, rape, child neglect, and drugs/alcohol.

This book is about love, loss, grief, addiction and brief talk sexual assault.

I really had to push through the beginning of the book. I wasn’t really feeling it until I was a little over 100 pages in. For a while I didn’t like the Mari chapters but once the sisters were reunited and got to learn more about Mari, she’s not so bad. She just went through a lot at a young age.

I did love the Kit chapters. I love how patient Javier was with her and all the nicknames he called her even though she had no idea what they meant till the end of the book.

I loved Kit evolve and go through all her emotions openly. She was never able to that when she was younger and when you only had to rely on yourself for all those years old habits can be hard to kick. She was strong for everyone around her but no one was really there for her. The ending of this book made me shed some tears. I’m glad everyone in this book (except for Dylan) got their closure and the ability to move forward.

2.5 but it was free from the kindle library so I will give it a three. I didn’t feel engaged with the main characters Kit and Mari. The ending was a little too happy.

Ultimately loved it but the back and forth writing/plots were a little disjointed at times.

This was a story that had a lot of promise for me. It did deliver on some things but fell short on others. Overall, it was a decent story, relatable at times …sad and other times happy.. i liked that it did have an ending/closure. I would have hated it if it was left open-ended.

I have nothing I really dislike about this book, but I still felt like something was missing for me. Nice atmosphere, though - you could really feel the sea and the food.
