This is a pretty dark book with a sad ending. Still going to read it to my son but it’s twisted. I mean, Fausto is kind of a weenie so it makes sense but still.

Had hele hoge verwachtingen door de cover (en Oliver Jeffers), maar vond de inhoud erg minimaal voor een prentenboek?

- Meme-worthy expressions of an angry man in bright pink scribbles create humor in this fable about being happy with what we have
- Illustrations are lithographic printmaking

Not really for kids? At first I thought this was going to be about imperialism/manifest destiny. It's not really. Then I thought maybe nature? But like also not quite? I guess it's about being happy with what you have but at this point I sort of don't care. Jeffers' is an incredible illustrator, but I just want him to make more Hueys books!

This looks like a kids book. This is not a kids book! This is a book adults need to read it is a brutal but great reminder about morality, humility and contentment!

If I had encountered this as a child, I think it would've stayed with me for the rest of my life. Instead, the fables my father told in lieu of bedtime stories fill that role, and this, while as charming as I find all of Oliver Jeffers' work, serves more as a pleasant reminder of those tales than a new and poignant insight.

Jeffers art is, as always, stunning, but it is the book’s message that will resonate.

The artwork is gorgeous. The story is incredibly satisfying and engagingly structured. I can't wait to read this aloud to a class.
