Eccentric, eclectic, flighty—that’s what they called her. But really, she was just a free spirit refusing to be caged by the barriers placed in front of her. Ricki wanted to carve her own path, not walk the one laid out by family obligations.

Y’all… this story was everything. Ricki, worried about what might happen next, still took a giant leap. She was self-assured yet practical, with that I know this is scary, but I’m doing it anyway ‘cause I ain’t no punk energy. Especially when it came to her less-than-stellar dating life, and not so perfect business acumen, she never let setbacks stop her. That strong will and refusal to fail made me fall for Ricki—I saw myself in her determination, her devotion to living life on her own terms.

And then there’s Ezra. A whole vision. Try as he might, nothing—nothing—could keep him from her (Color Purple vibes: “nothing but death could keep me from it!”). Their love began on a shaky half-truth born of fear, but it blossomed into a full-on bouquet of affection. A love that transcended time, defied explanation, and didn’t care about the world’s opinions—because it was theirs.

Absolutely stunning. Beautifully told. A story I’ll be thinking about for a long time. 10/10, highly recommend.

The way I cried reading this. Beautiful and powerful love story. I’m not really into SiFi, but this I can get into.

I had so many expectations of this book. The reviews were stellar, the anticipation great. Perhaps I was focused on the wrong genre. I thought A Love Song for Ricki Wilde was literary historical romance with time travel involved. Instead the novel is more romance with an unconvincing love story, a confusing voodoo backstory, and characters who don’t feel fully realized.

I did enjoy the 1920s Harlem Renaissance detail, and Ricki is an intriguing protagonist in her own right. Otherwise, the chemistry between the main characters and the logic behind the metaphysical plot line leave much to be desired. It felt more stated than experienced. In the end, I wasn’t completely sure what drew the two main characters together and why it was so monumental. I wasn’t a fan but it may be a book you appreciate depending on your interests.
