The book sort of started off slow for me then it kind of threw me off. Which is probably why it took 8 days for me to read it. The ending definitely surprised me.

I appreciate the history woven throughout this book and I also really enjoyed the cast of characters, but at it's core, this book is marketed as a romance and I just wasn't that invested in the love story. Too much time was spent on the side plots so I never really understood why the two main characters loved each other (or even really believed in their love).

There were so many things that made this book special. Definitely the quirkiness of the characters and the setting. The twist (if we can call it that) was interesting, and it gave the story and extra depth. But my favorite thing of all was how Tia Williams brought Harlem to life. The history and the culture and the historical places brought this story to life for me. It was like Harlem was a sentient character in the story. A beautiful story.
