I love that Holden realizes that he truly misses the people in his life. I don’t think he could have ever run away. Holden throughout the story is trying to figure out himself as a teen through the ways of adulthood. Touching up on the fact that he hates everyone and just wants to grow up already.
Graphic: Suicidal thoughts
Moderate: Suicide and Alcohol
Minor: Sexual content

This book put me in a reading rut. I know it's a classic and the controversy surrounding the connection between the novel and John Lennon's assassination and overarching message is interesting but that doesn't mean it's a good book.
To sum it up, it's about a teenage boy, named Holden Caulfield, who feels disillusioned with life, school and society so decides to go against it by taking adventurous trips elsewhere. I'm someone even if the book is bad, I feel like I have a duty to finish it because I've come this far, I might as well keep going. The Catcher in the Rye, broke that record. I got to around page 168, with only 66 pages left and decided I didn't actually care much about the story. When I stopped that was that.
Even with other classics that are not as easily digestible and may take longer to read, they still have a good plot and rhythm that make them enjoyable. This just wasn't it for me, it wasn't enjoyable... it was actually just frustrating to read.

Not a massively gripping plot and no huge ending, but it was quite sweet and I liked the protagonist a lot
