Another example of a mediocre story by Paul Pope that was made better only by his incredibly stylized and beautiful artwork.

I didn't really get much out of this one. Take some film noir and put it into a semi-cyber-punk future and add a drug subplot and you get Heavy Liquid.

The art was interesting and it was impressive how he managed to make a two color palette into something interesting, but overall it just wasn't that amazing.

Paul Pope's absolute best, in my opinion. Great sci-fi/action story, awesome art as always.

Gripping and fantastic.

A Puerto Rican man who lives in New York has been acquiring a special metal stolen from one of the clown gangs of the city. This graphic novel tells about his run-in with the clowns and a collector who needs someone found. The action scenes are exciting. There are several scenes with the main character walking China Town, walking on a rainy night in Paris, and others that are fantastic stand-alone pieces of art. You really feel the mood of the character and the environment. I look forward to reading another graphic novel by Paul Pope.

Bringing thoughts of a character out of the characters mind is not easy. Here I think it made the pages unnecessarily verbose. Most of the lead character's commentary is trivial and does not add up to the scenes. Since there is a very original sublety to this story, in which the tech is really advanced but inconspicuous, and there are hints of influence from film noir, the author could have used that film noir story telling to match the sublety of his art. And make the characterÅ› speech sparse, like a backgroung rhythm.

Super very strange weird. I only read it because a friend was clearing out some of his graphic novels and figured that I was the person for double-plus weird (I usually am).

I guess the drug things squicked me a bit and the art style was a bit too flaily for me and, really, too much Jagger. (At least Pope acknowledges it.)

I don't know. Aliens? Better than it was all a dream, but on that same level somewhere.

Huh, I'd completely forgotten that I read this. It never quite came together for me. Pope's got a great visual style, but the writing, plotting, and characters lacked. I keep hearing about him, but clearly, this was not the work to make me more interested.
