It's Anna-Marie McLemore, so of course this book was incredible, hard and sweet at the same time, filled with hope and hurt and pride. Of course the words and sentences were laced together in such a perfect way that it felt like you could feel them, taste them even. The magical realism feels so natural in their stories, like it is in and out of the characters at the same time, emotions made part of the world. Instead of them staying shut in, they leave on the fabric of reality the marks they cut in the main characters' hearts and flesh. It is one of the most clever, magical and sensitive way of putting feelings into a story that I ever came across.
And I could never, never recommend this book too much.

nie wiem, co mogę napisać. Nie umiem znaleźć słów odpowiednich na recenzję tej książki.
Trudna.
Chciałabym żyć w świecie, gdzie wydarzenia opisane w tej książce są tylko i wyłącznie fikcją.

This book definitely had some hard topics. I liked how they dealt with them. I thought the writing was stunning! This book was sad to read at times but after finishing it i was glad i did. It really made you think about the situations the characters went through. Great read!

I needed this book more than I've ever needed any book in my life - and I'm not exaggerating in the slightest.
I'm going to write a whole post on how much this book means to me soon.

3.75 stars, rounded up. I have very mixed feelings with this one. Firstly, it was very triggering and dark and upsetting, and it doesn't shy away from details. So if you're looking at this summary, know that SA is a very big theme and I personally probably should've waited to read it until I was a bit older. This is not to say that this book isn't important, because it is, and it's also very beautiful at times. I hesitate to use the saying, 'not for the faint of heart' because I hate that saying, but... I would google the content warnings before diving into it, as it was just very difficult to read for me. As such, it isn't a five star, but it's still a book that will stick with me for awhile, because it packs a punch. It is equal parts hopeful and heart-wrenching, upsetting and inspiring. It's a very important message. The story itself was wonderful; I loved the characters and their journeys and the discussions of trauma. But wow... this was just a lot for me. I might get back to you in a few days (years, maybe? lol) once it settles a bit more. This was my first McLemore book and I definitely want to read more of their work.
