Kind of like The Horse Whisperer, but entertaining and a quick read.

I think you definitely have to know your horse stuff in order to understand, and perhaps enjoy this book. And it seems like when it rains, it pours for the poor protagonist (who can get whiny and annoying pretty fast and spends much of the novel drinking, hungover, or sedated). I don't think anything goes right until the last twenty pages, when things are suddenly wrapped up quickly and quietly. It's not a very happy read, and I found myself wanting to slap the protagonist a few times, but it's not horrible.

The protagonist was very self-centered. It made it hard to care what happened to her.

One of the top 5 books I've read this year. Really identified with this book. Reminded me a lot of the Horse Whisperer. This has a completely different story, but shares the similarities of an accident and a woman who believes everything she touches falls apart until the love of a horse pieces her together. This is a library book I'll definitely be buying. (Just wish the photo on the cover used a correctly colored and marked horse!)

Meh. I'm getting tired of books with main characters whom you just want to yell at -- Annemarie consistently makes ridiculous destructive decisions, and there's always an attractive and convenient man there to pick her up off the floor, sometimes literally. I did like some of the descriptions of horses, but not enough to get over the protagonist's lameness.

This book was not as good as Water for Elephants but it did give an interesting glimpse into the horsemanship world. Also, the main character was interesting to follow as she was looking for purpose and contentment in her life.

This was a fast, easy read. Nothing too deep about the plot, but enjoyable just the same.
