Don't you love when you start a book and just know it will be five stars? Then keep reading and realize it might be a new favourite of the genre?
Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak is giving me a book hangover.
It has all the elements I love in a spooky read - unreliable narrator, mysterious backstories, atmosphere, local legends, and a fantastic hint of supernatural.
Round this out with essential parts of the story being told through art - both creepy and heartbreaking - and this book was an absolute winner.
Many elements reminded me of some of my favourite horror movies, the ones with well-thought out stories and unsettling twists that make you gasp.
 100% recommended!

Author doesn’t attempt to hide his vile politics and the writing is not on the level of an adult novel. Also, for a book that’s marketed as horror, it’s not scary.

Read this if you like:

oh boy… I have so much to say about this book, I loved it then hated it then loved it again. I knew it was a turn of the screw retelling but man! It was done so well! I hated the parents so much and progressively hated them more. I think the monologues were a little cheesy but done well and the one year later wrapped up nicely without being to long.

Well that was a trip, I kept thinking I knew what was going on and boy, was I wrong. I liked this quite a bit. It does have its issues, but the fact that it was a well written, unique story, pretty much held my attention. I also appreciated that it was presented with artwork within, that was refreshing. Overall I enjoyed it.
