Oof. I found this in a used bookstore and I'm not surprised its original owner didn't want to keep it. The first half of the novel is slowly paced and littered with pop culture references, as though the author has learned small details like that can root a story in reality, but is way too heavy-handed here. It comes off a little unironically American Psycho.

Secondly, the novel's friggin' build-up and climax occurs in narration during the epilogue(!). Literally the entire interesting part of a mystery, SOLVING IT, happens somewhere else, and the narrator just relates it to the audience.

Third, that ending, bro. Tacky use of suicide. I suppose having your characters nonsensically throwing themselves off buildings is one way to end this stinker.

I really wanted to like this one, to be honest I read about 40 pages and set it down for a month or two. I just picked it up and finished it to see if I'd like it better but ehh.. The ending didn't sit well with me. It seemed kinda pointless, not really sure if I got anything out of it. I love Michael David Wilson's podcast though, and that's what drew me to his book. I'll try another one of his books if writes another, but this one wasn't for me.

the way that this one ACTUALLY scared me was interesting. I think mostly because all of these things could very well happen in the here and now.

technology can be great, and also deadly.

Freddie finds himself trapped by a Hello Kitty Masked stalker of sorts. and of course, things get bloody.

i just wanna say that i LOVE the cover art and honestly had NO IDEA that there was a person sitting in a chair on the cover until AFTER i'd started reading it. HA. it's funny because i've been waiting for months to read this and had looked at the cover a million times and NEVER noticed. oops.

all in all, a decent read. i wasn't like 100% satisfied with the ending but i understood the reasoning behind it. and even felt like i probably would've done the same thing. i enjoyed the read.

I truly enjoyed this short and fast paced ride. Immersed from the get go (I even looked up the songs discussed in the books to get a real feel of the tone!), psychological horror for the modern age at its best!

It's made me second guess clicking on things when I don't know what they are!
