Fraction and Zdarsky began with an intriguing premise and totally surpassed my expectations in their execution of the first volume of Sex Criminals, leaving me with no good guesses as to how this story might continue to unfold. I found the writing to be both very funny, and thoughtful and honest.
Where to start? I have owned a copy of this for quite awhile and just now got around to reading it. Don't read this in public...the looks you will get...lol. So this is so original,dirty and oh so good. I really enjoyed the weird narrative to how the story is told about "discovering" their powers. The jokes also made this an enjoyable read too. Don't want to say too much more but wow....can't wait t o read volume 2.

After seeing so many positive reviews for this comic series, I finally got around to starting it. I was surprised by it, in a great way. Obviously, it involves sex so naturally there is some coming of age stories and some kinky sex, but it also has a relationship unfolding, bank robberies, sex police, and an awesome homage to Queen. This volume leaves you at the edge of your seat and wanting more. I am definitely interested in learning more about these characters and their story.
The jumping around in narrative time and continual breaking of the fourth wall got a bit old after a while, but it was a refreshing take on comic storytelling. The art is super pretty and a unique premise. Matt Fraction is a great writer so I'm curious what the rest of the series holds.
This.....wasn't that great. Basically this whole first volume just explains what is happening and why and there isn't anything all that interesting. I guess they were planning on getting people in by using sex, which is pretty okay at getting people to pick it up, but nothing really happens and the storyline is sketchy and the characters actually kind of suck. The humor was mediocre.
I think the storyline might get better in the rest of the series, since all of the explaining seems out of the way, but honestly i'm not that interested in continuing on.
