This book, whilst very educational, does not set out to be 'an idiots guide to Palestinian history', for which I am glad, as it results in a narrative which conveys the complexity of this conflict without losing the emotional and personal aspect in favour of the insistence of education. As a result, I do believe part of this would have made more sense had I had a deeper understanding of such a relevant topic, however, I did feel connected to the emotions conveyed and sometimes that can be the better way to stimulate empathy. I espeically liked how the author used the performance of Hamlet to help the reader understand the situation between Palestine and Israel better, which is both effective for it's primary purpose, and creates the stark realisation that we are more familiar with the centries-old fictional story than the reality currently unfolding around us. The story was rightfully uncomfortable, but also beautifully conveyed, striking a balance that it feels wrong to call enjoyable, but definitely succeeded in delivering vital education through fiction.
