Big Boned is the third novel in Meg Cabot's Heather Wells series. In this one we find Heather dating her math professor Tad Tocco, vegetarian-health freak; who has an "important question to ask her when the timing is right". Unfortunately she's still in love with her landlord Cooper, who's been acting jealous lately. To make matters worse the grad students are threatening to go on strike if they don't get better health benefits. And then Heather finds her interim boss dead in his office. Looks like it's Heather Wells, amateur detective back on the job.
While I love Meg Cabot's books and find it very refreshing to have a heroine who's a not a twig, I prefer Cabot's Queen of Babble series over this one. It's a quick, fun read overall, and I did enjoy it.

Heather Wells, book 3 done! I still liked the series as a whole, and the storyline for this book was still interesting but just slightly less than the first 2. Heather seemed to be, not as quirky, if that's possible. It might have been because in this book, she was actively trying not to necessarily go looking for the killer, but to me that was part of the interest in the first 2. The ending seemed a little rushed to me, and I'm not sure if it was the reader of this particular audiobook or not. Still a solid 3 out of 3 positives for the series. From one booknerd to another, Happy Reading.
Fun and fluffy, this was definitely a quick, escapist read in the world of Heather Wells. The plot wasn't as well developed or interesting as the first 2, and the relationship building in the book felt light to me. However, this was still an enjoyable read, and kept me into the story for a quick, if unremarkable read.
Okay so I mean I wasn't a fan of Tad Taco or w/e but I also feel bad about the way he's treated narratively. I mean Heather is normally so generous and caring but she's a little bit callous about him. I mean I get the reason the arc exists but I don't think it's a good look for Heather. That said I still enjoyed the time I spent reading this and love the way the extended cast interacts with one another. This fit the bill perfectly for something light, fun, and non taxing.

I love me some Heather Wells! These books are so well written that it amazes me. You can just get so invested in her as a character that you almost forget you're reading a book. It's like she's an actual person that I know ... that's how realistic she is.
This story was certainly interesting because the murder seemed to be put on the back burner this time around - this story was more about the developing relationships of the people whose lives intersect with Heather's. We have Magda, Sarah, Phil, Tad, Muffy, Gavin and Cooper - we got to see how all of their relationships developed, as well as their relationship with Heather.
Sure, it was known that one character didn't commit the murder, but it's not like a lot was done to prove it. Whereas in the last two books, where Heather went hunting for information, this time around it just kind of came to her naturally - or she was forced into helping. Maybe that's because she's becoming a better investigator - which you have to assume would happen after a while. People do get better at things as they practice.
Oh! And Thank Fucking Christ regarding the personal relationship that finally developed. Hooray!!! It was totally what I was waiting for. Made me so happy at the end, I was grinning from ear to ear.
Overall, an awesome, if slightly unbalanced book.

Heather Wells is back, and it seems for once, life is going well. Her math teacher has now become her boyfriend. Who cares if he is a vegetarian health nut, Heather is just happy he is interested in her. Her father is finally moving out and has a new business venture that he wants Heather to help him with. But when her new boss is found shot dead in his office, Heather's life is tossed into array.
After one of the graduate students is arrested for the crime, one of Heather's student employee begs her to find the real killer. Then other of her student contacts begin to "help" her investigate, the graduate students go on strike, taking security, maintenance and other unions with them. Meanwhile her landlord and crush, Cooper, is strictly forbidding her to play sleuth. It's enough to send a girl back for a second Dove bar. Can Heather find the real killer without getting shot herself.
This third (and most likely) thirds instalment in the Heather Wells series is quite possibly the best. Author Meg Cabot writes Heather as a sarcastic, aware plus sized woman who becomes more and more competent as the series goes on. You can't help but root for her. When you add in the rich secondary characters, like Magda and Pete and scenes like the "executive team build exercises" you have a book that is light, fun and will leave a smile on your face.
