This was a cute story. Not sure where it was going with them being from different countries and back grounds. Will he stay in California? Will she go to Sweden? You can't tell where things are going..

What I liked:
  • Viktor’s romantic heart, OMG he was the absolute star of this book. He was soo poetic and romantic and protective. He had so many adorable moments.
  • Mental health, this book had a really amazing portrayal of mental health from a bunch of different characters. So that was refreshing.
  • The kiddos, Callum especially was so much fun in the story and added a lot of humor.
What I didn’t like:
  • The journalist thing, I know it’s a Roman Holiday retelling but I REALLY hate journalist storylines. It’s unbearable to me. Thankfully it became a nonissue after a bit in the beginning. I was really close to not finishing because of that.

I chose to read this as it was a romance with some Swedish connections. This was not what I expected. I thought more of the book would take place in Sweden, but only a small part of it did. I didn't particularly like the characters either, the female main character felt extremely naive and self-centered . It was however fun to see how Halle chose to describe Sweden and Swedes, even if I don't think it's accurate.

When unforeseen circumstances force Maggie to return to her small town and away from the freedom she thought she finally achieved, she quickly gets into a routine that never changes and a job that barely makes ends meet for the whole family. But when she walks into a hotel room to clean as usually, normal is definitely not what she receives. Instead, a very naked man with way too much confidence is standing and somehow this changes everything in her life because she finds him out at the bar later that night and is determined to not make a fool of herself all over. Only thing is, he isn't just a tourist, and a completely new world is opened up to her.

This was definitely fun and I'm happy I'm starting this series since I read the Royals Next Door and absolutely loved it. I thought the chemistry between the two of Maggie and Viktor was great and I loved how dedicated he was to her siblings, but I was a bit frustrated with how he thought she could just so smoothly transition into this new lifestyle. I think the long-distance complications were extremely realistic and a welcome variety in my romances but his assumption towards how she could just quickly fall into his life kind of frustrated me in the end. The side characters were a lot of fun though and I look forward to reading about their stories in the future.

i appreciated that the secret prince identity and what could have been the third act conflict happened right away. if that had been the third act conflict i probably would have DNF’d it because it would have just been another predictable royal romance. kinda rude that viktor didn’t even gove her a rundown on basic etiquette when interacting with royals and basically threw her to the wolves when she first meets his parents but they can’t all be perfect. this was also the definition of instalove but you know what, sure. i guess.
