So relatable and so needed! The way the author weaves the specificities of EDS into her daily life is so accurate. Validating to read and engaging all the way through.

I had to read this book for a class and ended up really enjoying it. I read mostly fiction and shy away from non-fiction but I really liked this memoir and I want to start reading more novels like it. Alyssa’s story was emotional, heart breaking, and relatable. And I also learned a lot about what chronic illness can look like and how it impacts the people living with it. I also loved the aesthetic of the novel, in the Pacific Northwest, knitting, cottages on the coast, and cats. I am excited to try and read more books like this!

I loved this. It was also really helpful for me. Alyssa's story about finding home within her body and coming to terms with her chronic illness helped me in my understanding of my own experience of EDS.

The story of a life, of its meanders, of youth and growing up ("adulting"--not coming of age so much as becoming an adult, the early twenties)--and the revisiting of memories of the past as she grows with understanding.
It took me a bit to get into it, as the first part really didn't engage me so much, but it was well worth sticking with, the last half is spectacular.
I think people with chronic pain often think they are expressing too much of their pain, and this book exemplifies that sometimes, they don't show it enough.
A little gem of a book.
