The author did try and be different and think outside for a YA (quote from my co-book club member) but it was way too repetitive for my liking and to me had a big miscommunication plot device, like if he would have just been upfront from the beginning things could be been handled sooner and probably differently.
Faerie caught my attention when I first read [b:Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell|14201|Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell|Susanna Clarke|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/410A553CR8L._SL75_.jpg|3921305] and continued to dazzle when I read [b:Stardust|16793|Stardust|Neil Gaiman|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519JIJ-RxOL._SL75_.jpg|3166179]. Since then, any book with fey folk has intrigued me. So even though this [b:Wicked Lovely|305234|Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1)|Melissa Marr|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1173568263s/305234.jpg|296240] looked a little too teen romance for me, I kept picking it up to reconsider.
Aislinn has always been able to see faeries, but they've usually paid her no attention. Her grandmother has taught her to be terrified and avoid them at all costs. So when two faeries begin following her after school, she is more than a little worried. Turns out, her concern is not unfounded. The faeries have plans for Aislinn and her life will never be the same again.
As it turns out, parts of the book were a little too teen romance for me, but other parts kept me interested enough. I really liked the character Donia, and she turns out to be more important in the end than it seems like she will be, so that made me happy. I'm also genuinely curious to find out what happens in the world after the end of this book. I didn't care a lick for what would happen with the romance, but what will happen next to the power structure in faerie is pretty interesting, and it seems to be the topic of the next book [b:Ink Exchange|2321296|Ink Exchange (Wicked Lovely, #2)|Melissa Marr|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1201493138s/2321296.jpg|2327820], so I might pick it up in the future after all.

It took me a few chapters to get into this book. However, once I did it was really good. I couldn't wait to see how the biggest problem was resolved. Although it was resolved at the end the story still left enough of possible issues to keep me looking forward to more books.
nostalgia levels on 10 — this book tells a little more than it shows, but it’s a fun story that got me to listen to it in less than 24 hours
i never knew of the series but i’m so excited to read those too

While at first a tad confusing, I absolutely fell in love with Aislinn, and Donia and Keenan. Their stories were so fascinating and the Faerie's world was so descriptive and immersive I couldn't help but be drawn in. I love that everything was tied up so neatly and beautifully at the end, and I will definitely be reading the next book in the series as soon as possible.
One of those books that I felt compelled to finish, even though the writing was a little meh.
It was hard to get into at first.. but then I couldn't put it down! I liked how it ended but I'm curious to know how the story continues! I've always loved the Fae and the stories told of them.
Super unimpressed with this one. I think the plotline in theory is really good, and COULD be really awesome. The delivery just left so much to be desired.
