This book is good. But I'm not too much in third person narration so I'm having a bit of troulbe reading it. I finally finsihed it. It was interesting and it did catch my attention but not as much as other books have. It didn't start to really reel me in until about chapter twelve or so. It was a good book enough for me to finsh reading it but not good enough for ME to continue with the series. But don't take my review to serious go and find out of yourself!
It's not that it's not a good book, it's more that I couldn't really get into it. I think that the world that was created was ok, but I also know that I didn't like the ending. I just didn't think that the ending fit with the rest of the story.
Looking forward to reading #2 in the series. This was a quick read and entertaining.
I would give it three stars, but I can't bring myself to do it. It was alright, mediocre a best. I liked some parts and wished some were better written or handled in a different way. Aislinn needed more character. She seemed kind of uninterested in her situation. It was like she was told what was going to happen and was said, "I don't really feel like handling this right know. Actually, I don't feel at all so..." Seth was the perfect dream boy, but seriously needed a life. He was basically in love with her and would drop everything to do something for her. Most girls would want that, but I would like my space sometimes. As much as I hate love triangles (Only poorly written ones.)this book might have been better with one. I'm not 100% on that idea because I liked how the ending wasn't cliché. It was different. I can only imagine the author's thought processes. "I don't want to make the ending cliché, but I can't have her not choose then what's the point of writing this book. I'll just have her get both things, that'll be new and different." It might have been, but it took the whole book for her boyfriend (Seth) to come up with the idea. Going back to Seth, HOW THE HELL DID AISLINN NOT SEE ON THE SIGHS HE WAS GIVING HER!!! He kissed her neck and all this stuff and she seriously didn't think that he didn't like her. Man even I'm not that clueless.
Keenan was just in the way really, that's what it felt like most of the time. No one really got angry. It would have been a better story if Keenan and Aislinn made out and then she gets pissed, and then Seth and Aislinn had a fight. There should have been more conflict in this book. And I don't mean violence, but this book felt like everyone, but the antagonist, was in a Zen mode. It was as if I was reading this book through a muted lens. The concept was pretty good, (considering I don't really like fairies.) but the plot was lacking, and the characters were dry, only showing one or two qualities. It all seemed a little cliché despite the ending. A muted lens is a best I can describe it. Don't think I'm going to be continuing with this series, whatever. It helped me out of my reading slump.

This is the first book in my pursuit to read my childhood favorite’s that didn’t live up. I was obsessed with this series when I was younger, but as in adult there were a number of flaws that no amount of nostalgia could erase.
I think the biggest flaw during this most recent read was Seth and Ash’s relationship. In middle school I think I was so desperate for a relationship that Seth immediately being deeply in love with Ash was compelling for me. But as an adult I was just left wondering why? There’s never an explanation as to why he is so enamored by her.
The other major flaw that my younger self over looked was that the rules of the magic/game everyone is playing aren’t clear. If I remember correctly there’s more of an explanation later in the series, but for Wicked Lovely as a stand alone book I was left with a lot of questions concerning Beira’s motivation to starting the game in the first place.
That being said, there were a number of things that worked for me reading this as an adult. Donia and Keegan’s relationship was riveting to me (an aspect of the book the I know younger me was bored by). Their love was angsty and impossible and I couldn’t get enough.
I would also like to note that Marr handles sex incredibly in this book. There’s talk about respecting boundaries, consent, and getting tested every time you change partners. I feel very lucky that this was a book I read as a young teenage girl—I think it’s an exceptional model for how to have a happy and healthy sex life.
Unfortunately, this was the exceptional book that existed in my memory, but I do remember why I liked it and look forward to rereading the rest of the series.

It reads like a draft or skeleton version of the story. Decent bones, but lacking depth - the author tells rather than showing most of the time, and the dialogue feels cheesy.
Didn’t really love how it turned out, but it wasn’t awful either. WHAT WAS AWFUL? The huge climax of the book which should’ve been exciting and drawn out - way too easy.
But I’m nothing if not curious, so I’ll keep reading this series.

I find the relationship dynamics very interesting. They are actually pretty complex surprisingly enough. Although there is no real dynamic plot happenig, the quirkiness of the story makes it entertaining. The vibes appear and disappear at will, and the world-building ought to be strengthened some more. Im having a good time though!
