I thought that this book was awesome. The book had even more things hidden beneath its covers than the book before it, The Gathering. The main character, Maya Delaney, finds out many things about her past and she is running from the truth, that the St.Clouds were hiding a HUGE secret from the whole town, except for the scientists that worked in the lab.

I enjoyed this second installment of the darkness rising trilogy. It was fasted paced with the group running from kidnappers and the St Clouds the whole time, but you got to learn more about the teens and their powers. I can not wait to see how this trilogy ends. Each book seems to leave you with more information, but no closer to finding the truth or who to trust or an ending.

It was fantastic! I can't understand that with every book Kelley writes it's just more amazing than the book before! She is a goddess in the world of writing!

The Darkness Rising series continues to impress! Picking up seamlessly from the first book, the second installment throws the characters into a heart-pounding adventure. Packed with action and suspense, it keeps me glued to the pages.

I thought I stopped reading this series at book 1 when I was younger, but I remember a few events from this one too. Hmm.

I feel like this trilogy would’ve been better off as a duology because not much happens in this middle book. Lots of running, someone being captured, running, someone being captured, and so on.

They also climb trees to escape a black bear which - as somebody who was practically raised in the woods like Maya - sounds about as smart as Mina Lee climbing a tree to escape a cougar. Big bears might be less likely to climb after you, but they definitely still can — just look it up on YouTube. (Unless black bears in BC have lost their climbing abilities..)

And of course, same cultural appropriation criticism from my last review.

Onto the next book, which hopefully contains Darkest Powers’ Simon, Derek, and Chloe!

The sequel wasn't quite what I expected, but it was a great read nonetheless! Maya became more attuned to her powers, as did more of her friends, some of who had unexpected abilities. The only part that kinds threw me regarded Rafe. It seemed completely out of the blue and I'm not sure why it happened in the first place. Still, the story was one that focused on survival and trust, and hard choices. The characters continued to grow, with my love for Maya, Daniel, Rafe, and even Corey continuing to grow. The only person I couldn't stand was Sam. Everyone else acted like a normal, reasonable person, offering honesty and explanations and never keeping secrets or full blown arguing to create drama. Unless you were Sam. She's a drama machine. All in all, this was a quick sequel that felt like a bridge between stories, and I hope there will be a lot more explanations and resolutions in the finale.

One word: disappointing.

Characters felt weak and I kept getting confused with the different girls.

Story line also weak and very predicitable.

I love Kelley Armstrong but so unhappy with this current series. Will read next book just because I'm hoping they will meet up with the Edison group kids.

Okay so I'm its over a year later and I've read it again.

I'm still not that attached to Maya or Daniel or anyone but it deserves more than the 2 stars I gave it way back when. I've bumped it to a 3. But I still feel the same way and I can't wait till they meet up with Chole and Derek and co. in The Rising.
