i’ll make this brief. initially i liked the hero because of how protective he was but as the book progressed, he became unbearably possessive. the power dynamic between him and the heroine was completely imbalanced, to the point that it was difficult for me to read because she had no agency when it came to him. (more is explained in content warning section.)

the story ended on a huge cliffhanger which surprised me. as to whether i would pick up the next book—i have to say i’m sorely tempted to. i really wish heroine would stand up for herself more. i’m curious if she would wisen up some so i will most likely read the next book in the future.

the heroine in this story, dawn is a mute. she had no problem communicating with everyone around her—it was established that she was great at communicating so her condition didn’t hinder her in any way. however, i assume, because of the setting and timeline of this book, dawn’s condition was seen as an affliction. the hero even refused to have a child with her in fear of having a mute child. at one point in the story, he even told her to consume some concoction that would either prevent pregnancy, or abort the baby if she’s already carrying. it was very hurtful. also, as i’ve already mentioned, the heroine had no agency because the hero was so controlling. pair this up with her condition, i think it’s even worse.
