Such a unique concept! The book taking place within 60 seconds & the characters the author makes our main character interact with make for such an intriguing plot & overall message about the mental battles faced during times of grief. I listened to this on audio, and Jason Reynolds narrating it himself added so much to the reading experience!

This book left my head spinning a bit. I thought it was a really clever story. It’s told through vignettes of free verse, and the formatting of the text helps it along at points and gets creative, especially the question mark shape full of “right”s. This is a really great way to tell this story about a vicious cycle of killing and being killed. It’s a harsh world for those boys to grow up in, and I love the ambiguity of the ending as well. Also, slight spoiler, I love that the author put the ghosts in the elevator and made them the ones to convince Will to break the cycle. The way the author put this together was clever. I especially loved the repeated messages and phrases throughout. It was a really quick read, but a good one.
