I’m in a Book Club and this was the selection for the month....honestly, I’ve read many motivational books related to Scripture and putting your mind to something and they all say generally the same thing. This book was just so-so for me. Maybe it’s because I’m ok with my current diet and excercise plan? I am unsure...I tried to apply some of these principles in the book towards other bad habits and it worked ok, and I was able to highlight some passages but overall this book wasn’t a stand-out.

🍰Ultimately, this book is about focusing on filling our souls with Jesus rather than with empty things, namely food. Glorifying God in our bodies and worshiping Him even in our diets.

🍰There were lots of practical suggestions in this book, ideas for ways to implement the spiritual concepts being discussed. This was both good and bad - I wasn't necessarily expecting the practical "7 ways to serve your neighbor without feeding them junk" sort of lists that were in each chapter. There were lots of good ideas, but I was just expecting more of a theological/doctrinal discussion. Which is not to say that there was none of that - quite the opposite. She definitely takes the time to lay a solid Biblical foundation for all her practical suggestions. And I'm not saying the practical aspect was bad, it was just not what I was expecting.

🍰I also wish I had read a print or digital version rather than listen to it because there is a lot of content that would have worked better reading with my eyes. I want to say I will reread it in a print version, but I'm not going to promise that!

🍰I really love the emphasis on focusing our eyes and our spiritual hunger on Jesus, redirecting our thoughts to the eternal whenever we are tempted by the temporal, and giving our food over to the Lord. That's a message I need to hear over and over again, even if I don't have any specific "food fixation" issues.

This book is packed with scriptures and wisdom on overcoming food addiction- and Asheritah makes the journey actually feel doable with hands on solutions and tips to smooth the path. Highly recommend.

I heard the author speak on the radio and so many of her struggles with food was exactly “me”! She even put into words many of the thoughts and feelings that I have been dealing with, but didn’t know how to process them enough to understand the core of what was going on. It’s not a diet book, but it hits the nail on the head of “food fixation”. Food fixation covers both sides of the spectrum, whether I’m impulsively reaching for a 3rd helping (even though I’m no longer hungry) or obsessing over counting every calorie and going hardcore in a new diet. I’m definitely guilty of dwelling for hours on indulging in a special treat when having a bad day. Food is not bad and it’s a gift, but we don’t have to allow the cravings over being over the top healthy control our lives. For Christians, it’s also a spiritual battle that I never really recognized. Will this chocolate truly give me satisfaction or is there a deeper issue going on that I need to ask God to help me deal with? Yes, we can enjoy things and it’s okay, but it can also be a heart issue.
