This book was so fitting for the horror week of GoodReads, spooky stories are boring for me but this one was a kind of a distinct fiction.
"Villainy wears many masks, none of them is so dangerous like the mask of virtue."

I was so excited to read this and I finally did, but it was a bit of a letdown. I thought it was going to be spooky and filled with the headless horseman because of how short the story is, but I was mistaken. Most of the story is the main character talking about being interested in a woman he met and trying to win her affection alongside another man as his rival. The very end of the book is when we finally get the headless horseman. Anyway, I did like it. I was just a little disappointed, but the ending was spooky.

This was a pretty fun read and perfect for October! I loved all the descriptions and the language, although a product of its time, was so poetic!

A classic of American Gothic literature, Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is an amusing romp, and a spine-tingler at the same time. Irving lulls the reader into a false sense of security, choosing to focus on Ichabod Crane's life and love for nature in true Romantic style, only to turn that nature against him and the audience in a macabre fashion, making it come to life as a haunted specter of imaginative horror.
