i guess this DNF says more about my current reading mood than james baldwin. i'm pretty sure i just picked this up at the wrong time, i was so excited after reading the blurb but the story just wasn't what i expected at all. the characters are rather unlikable and usually i like a good book with annoying ass characters but not this time, i just didn't have the patience.

This was a journey and I delighted in every step..... Baldwin you sly dog..... this book almost didn't have a plot and it didn't need one. A study of the human condition perhaps,,,, definitely the American condition. sexy, tragic, fruity, agonized and profound. loved it

At this point I'm starting to believe that there  won't be a non-5-star book by James Baldwin.
