Seriously, after reading this book, I want to study pottery. Been scouting around for classes and found out it’s not cheap, lol!
Jungmin, thirty-year old, TV broadcast writer, quits her job, holes up in her apartment for days on end. When she finally goes out, she accidentally finds a pottery studio in her neighborhood. As soon as she steps in, the smell the clay, the place plant-filled windows, the resident cat and the coffee are enough to awaken her senses. She is iinspired to study and learn pottery. Seasons change, Jungmin realizes a lot of changes is happening to her as well. As she continues to work on her clay, piece by piece, she begins to heal and may be ready to face her past and eventually open s up her heart again.
As the title suggests, this book is about healing journey and pottery I must say. It’s a character-driven story that talks about healing, belonging to a tight-knit community, highlighting the importance of mental health, work-life balance and finding hope that life will soon be better. There’s so much we can relate to the characters here, that the issues we see are sometimes the same issues we have in real life, many life lessons to learn and relearn. I like the setting, the vibes it’s giving, showing pottery as an art and at the same time as an artistic activity that helps our mind and body. With each creation Jungmin makes, be it flawed, broken or perfect, it makes her see progress, growth, acceptance, reconciling some of her past mistakes and guilt.
And while the pacing is slow which I think is just right with the story, there are hardly any plot, no arc in the story that tends to feel flat. It somehow makes the reader hard to connect to the characters. But overall it’s a heartwarming, cozy and comforting read.
Not the characterization I was hoping for, and this is a hard genre for me to get into.

A book of healing and tenderness that I adore. I loved the main character and how honest (yet reserved) she was. And a really cute romance at that. The book was so comforting and felt like warm tea.
