I could not get enough of this forbidden love that was somehow encouraged and hated by the gods. It had so much awareness for so many topics including suicide, grooming, racism, transphobia, trauma, abuse, and I guess I was very seen by having these topics discussed. It has so many layers of magic I will not even try to explain but it was magical hearing about the magic.
It has a more deep dive into the same topics so many fantasy YA books have so don’t run away because of the content warnings.

4.75 stars!
Wow did I love this book! It's book 2 and I found it answered a lot of questions I'd had in the first book and was also just easier to understand. Karina and Malik are amazing characters and I also love Ife. A story of perseverance!

I appreciate how the author presents Malik's mental illnesses, his anxiety, and his self harm, suicidal thoughts/attempts.
I love Karina's queerness.
And I just appreciate most of the characters' tenacity, will, and how very much themselves they are.
I loved the journey we go through with them all separately and then together.

I WISH we got a third book and that this wasn't a duology. We need a part 3 of them living their lives! But I guess I'll just deal with the end chapter.

This book is definitely getting added to my favorites list!

*This book is graphic and contains a lot of trauma. Please check content warnings*.

This was much darker and more emotional than I expected or recall book 1 being. We pick up a short while after the events of book 1. Our characters are pursuing new goals and realize that the aftermath of their actions are far reaching and extremely impactful. The plot was engaging and the characters fleshed out in a satisfying way. I think this books greatest strength is its discussion of toxics relationships, depression and trauma. I thought the author did a fantastic job of tackling these issues without being overly prescriptive or heavy handed. I wish they had been more explicit in some places to make clearer to readers that these moments are ones of abuse though I appreciate that they trust that young readers will be able to identify this. Overall a strong conclusion to this duology!

I much preferred this to the first one. Thought it was beautifully written and really emotionally charged. Highly recommend

Absolutely gorgeous. I loved the first book and this was better. It feels right, it feels complete, and yet I want so much more.

This was a fantastic conclusion to the duology! This book, like the first, is narrated through both Malik & Karina. It is more heavily focused on their relationship than the previous book, but instead of the more personal plots in the first book, the plot of this book is bigger in scale.

Throughout the book I was incredibly frustrated with Malik - in the best way. The way in which he was so wrapped up in Farid's charisma felt very grounded in his character as developed so far. I found myself ranting about how blind Malik was to the bigger events around him - which is usually a complaint I have about books, but in this case, truly found it to be highly realistic and captivating.

About the ending
it is NOT a happy ever after, or even a happy for now. It doesn't wrap things up in a nice bow. But it was somehow still very satisfying
.
