A Psalm of Storms and Silence was a fantastic conclusion to this duology. I really enjoyed A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, but I thought this book was even better than the last. This book definitely focused much more on the character development, which I thought was a really great choice on Brown’s part.

I found the plot to be engaging, the characters well written and developed, and the world expanded in a way that made sense. The continued integration of African mythology was smooth and added a welcome layer of intrigue and depth to the story, and I loved the addition of Hyena as a backseat narrator.

Like I said with the previous book, I didn’t love the romance element of the book and wish that Malik and Karina could have been friends rather than lovers.

As for the ending,
I adored how Brown wrote this. Of course readers want to hear that the two end up back together–they were absolutely soulmates despite not being true companions for the entire duration of the story or their lives–but it was far more impactful to write the ending this way rather than tying all the pretty bows. I am still conflicted on how I feel about Malik being separated from his sisters and seemingly being okay with that since so much of his identity was tied up with his reliance upon them one way or another. However, I can justify the decision Brown made, so I won’t hold it against the story itself.

Overall, this was an excellent conclusion to the duology, and I will certainly read other books by this author.

Une belle conclusion à la duologie même si la fin un peu ouverte me tanne et que j'aurais aimé une conclusion plus fermée. Les personnages ont évolué depuis le début et j'ai aimé suivre leur progression.

I’m not sure the author really knew what to do with this story, and it didn’t always make sense. But it did fully pull me into the world, so major points for that.

But still- Tunde deserved better
